(GRAND FORKS, ND) – The University of North Dakota and its head football coach have parted ways.
In a joint announcement Saturday, UND Athletic Director Bill Chaves and head football coach Bubba Schweigert announced that the Zeeland, N.D., native will step down after 11 seasons as head coach. He will move into a senior administrative role within the athletic department as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Engagement and Mentorship, Chaves announced.
“I want to thank Coach Schweigert for his unbridled passion for the University of North Dakota,” said Chaves. “His legacy as a football coach will be forever remembered, but I look forward to working him on our senior leadership team in a different capacity so that he can continue to use his amazing skills for the betterment of UND, its alumni, coaches, staff and most importantly, all of our student-athletes.”
He will remain as head coach until a replacement is named, and Chaves says a national search is underway and will abide by the University’s hiring practices.
