Madison, Wisc. Police Captain named Grand Forks Police Chief

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The City of Grand Forks announces Madison, Wisconsin Police Captain Jason Freedman will be the next police chief.

Freedman has been in law enforcement for 27 years. He is the Madison Police Department SWAT Commander.

“It is an absolute honor and privilege to be named the next Police Chief for the City of Grand Forks.” Freedman said.  “My family and I look forward to being a part of the Grand Forks community and Police Department.”

“After a long and thorough process reviewing a great crop of internal and external candidates for this position, I am very confident in selecting Captain Freedman.”  Grand Forks Mayor Brandon Bochenski said.  “His policing experience and personal values will ensure that Grand Forks continues to be a safe community devoted to law and order.”

Freedman is scheduled to take over as police chief on January 27.

Candidates also interviewed for the job were Grand Forks Police Deputy Chief William Macki and Grand Forks Police Lieutenants Derik Zimmel and Jeremy Moe and University of North Dakota Police Patrol Commander Daniel Weigel.
