ST. PAUL, MN — In a recent court filing, Minnesota State Senator Michelle Mitchell pleaded not guilty to charges.
She also requested a settlement conference and jury trial. Prosecutors cannot argue that Mitchell stole a laptop seized by Detroit Lake Police, as ownership of the laptop was disputed.
Mitchell’s arrest during the legislative session caused turmoil, with ethics proceedings on hold. Despite calls for her resignation, Mitchell’s fellow Democrats needed her vote due to a slim majority.
Mitchell’s attorney cited a strained relationship with her stepmother as a factor in the case.
