SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota’s attorney general is pushing back on the idea of pardoning the man convicted of murdering George Floyd.
Former Minneapolis Police Officer Chauvin was sentenced to 22 1/2 years in state prison. He also received a 21 year federal sentence for violating Floyd’s civil rights.
Speaking on CNN, Keith Ellison said calls for President Donald Trump to pardon Chauvin show “blatant disrespect” for the law and for Floyd’s family. Ellison said a pardon would set society back and said he hopes Trump “has enough humanity” to deny a pardon.
