ND Governor signs executive order to declare fire emergency across the state

BISMARCK, ND — North Dakota’s Governor signed an emergency order into effect to fight against wildfires across the state.

North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum signed the executive order into effect today, which officially sets forward the statewide fire emergency. The order was signed to face the 67 reported fires which burned 3,500 acres.

“Above average temperatures, gusty winds, low humidity and significant amounts of dry vegetation have combined to create high fire danger conditions in parts of North Dakota,” Burgum said. “Fires can spread rapidly under these conditions, and the state is ready to respond quickly with resources as needed to help local firefighters and first responders protect lives, homes and communities.”

The declaration also activates the State Emergency Operations Plan. It additionally positions the state’s Department of Emergency Services, Forest Service, and National Guard to prepare for fighting the fires if necessary.
