NDDOT officials: Lane changes account for nearly 70 percent of fatal crashes

(Bismarck, ND) — “Keep your head on a swivel.”

That’s the advice from North Dakota transportation officials, who note that lane changes are responsible for the lion’s share – upwards of 70 percent – of fatal vehicle crashes in North Dakota. To counter this trend, state transportation officials are moving ahead with plans to install enhanced road safety features such as wider edge-line pavement markings, curve-warning signs, cable-median barriers and rumble strips.

Meanwhile, motorists are advised to buckle up, obey speed limits, use proper child safety seats and avoid consuming alcohol or abusing drugs when behind the wheel.
