New Moorhead community center & library named The Loop

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The City of Moorhead announces the new community center and library building is named The Loop.

The city says the change reflects the exciting role this building will serve as a hub for learning, creativity, and community engagement. Officials say The Loop symbolizes connection linking people to knowledge, resources, and each other. It also represents Moorhead’s commitment to continuous learning, innovation, and inclusivity, ensuring that everyone who visits has access to opportunities for growth.

“The Loop reflects the combination of community center features with the public library in one incredible building. The Moorhead Public Library will maintain its identity in the location while offering expanded amenities. The Loop is a fun play on words to encourage people to gather, learn and stay “in the Loop” in Downtown Moorhead. Plus, there’s a beautiful walking loop around the interior of the second floor to keep us active year-round!” Mayor Shelly Carlson said.

The city says The Loop will have a year-round playground and indoor walking loop.

The Loop is expected to open in the Spring of 2026 and will be free and open to the community.
