North Dakota Abortion Ban overturned due to being “unconstitutionally vague”

BISMARCK, ND — A North Dakota judge has overturned an abortion ban recently signed into law.

The ruling, made by South Central Judicial Court Judge Bruce Romanick, calls the law unconstitutionally vague and states that it infringes on medical freedoms provided to all North Dakotans. Currently, there are no clinics in the state which provide abortion services. The Red River Women’s Clinic, which previously resided in Fargo and provided these services, moved to Moorhead immediately before the ban was enforced.

“I feel like the court heard us when we raised our voices against a law that not only ran counter to our state constitution, but was too vague for physicians to interpret and which prevented them from providing the high quality care that our communities are entitled to,” said Tammi Kromenaker, the director of the Red River Women’s Clinic in a statement to the North Dakota Monitor.

The judge ordered the plaintiffs to file a proposed judgement within the next two weeks. The state will likely appeal the decision.
