North Dakota farmers and ranchers heading to D.C. to pressure lawmakers on Farm Bill concerns

BISMARCK, ND — North Dakota farmers and ranchers are pressing congressional leaders to pass a farm bill with a legislative fly-in today.

26 members of the North Dakota farmers Union are going to Washington D.C. to speak with lawmakers, citing rising input costs, declining net farm income, and other concerns.

“It’s like deja vu. We were in this exact same position a year ago when Congress failed to pass a new five-year bill,” said NDFU President Mark Watne. “Kicking the can down the road isn’t a solution to the problems we face. We need program certainty that only a new farm bill can provide.”

The group will also meet with U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack today. They will also meet with members of the Federal Trade Commission, Environmental Protection Agency, and Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division.
