Scott Hennen’s conversation with North Dakota State Senator Ron Sorvaag
(BISMARCK, ND) – The North Dakota Legislature is nearing crossover, but still has some work left to do.
District 45 State Senator Ron Sorvaag (R-Fargo) says the session is on track heading towards the time where bills in the Senate cross over to the House and vice versa.
“The duplicate bills are getting taken care of,” he said.
He says discussions surrounding bonding will come in mid-April.
“Do we want to do additional buildings, or additional water projects, whatever the case may be,” Sorvaag said. “That’s when we should determine whether we should bond or not.”
Bonding is not off the table, he said, but the issue likely won’t come up until after all of the state’s budgets and bills are dealt with.
Research funding
Multiple entities have requested funding for research. Those entities include NDSU and Grand Farm among others.
Sorvaag said funding research is critical.
“Energy and ag are big players, and they’re going to be in the future,” he said.
Sorvaag said that all the entities are separate – but have one thing in common, too.
“They’re there to enhance agriculture for the state of North Dakota, which is the one industry we know will be around as long as people are around,” he said. “We’re going to need food.”
Sorvaag said his hope is to keep funding all of the projects.
