North Dakotans to vote on term limit changes for legislators

(BISMARCK, ND) — North Dakotans will vote on term limit changes for state legislators come 2026.

The North Dakota House of Representatives approved Senate Concurrent Resolution 4008, which would amend the state constitution to allow lawmakers to serve their four-term limit in either chamber. Currently they’re limited to serving two in the Senate and two in the House. It would also eliminate language from the constitution barring lawmakers from proposing amendments to change term limits.

The bill will now be signed by the Secretary of State and put on the 2026 general election ballot.
