Northwood man suffers serious injuries in Grand Forks County crash

(GRAND FORKS COUNTY) – One person received serious injuries in a crash Monday morning in rural Grand Forks County.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a 1995 Peterbilt 379 Conventional, driven by 69-year-old Charles Bachmeier, of Northwood, was eastbound on 6th Avenue NE at the stop sign regulated intersection. A 2018 Ford F-150, driven by an unidentified 79-year-old Northwood man, was northbound on 36th Street NE.

The Peterbilt entered the intersection and struck the Ford, causing the Ford to come to rest in the east ditch on the northeast corner of the intersection, facing east. The Peterbilt came to rest on 6th Avenue NE, on the east side of the intersection.

The driver of the Ford was transported to Northwood Deaconess Health Center by Northwood Ambulance Service. His condition is unknown at this time.

The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Bachmeier was charged with failure to yield right of way at intersection marked with a stop sign. The driver of the Ford was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
