MINNEAPOLIS – Olympic gold medalist and two time NCAA Champion Gable Steveson is returning to the Golden Gophers wrestling team.
Head Coach Brandon Eggum made the announcement.
The Apple Valley native left the University of Minnesota after four seasons with the team in 2022 to join WWE. He competed in one televised match at NXT Great American Bash in July 2023 and was released in May of this year.
He was signed by the Buffalo Bills for a three-year deal despite never playing football before. He played defensive end and was released after the Bills’ third preseason game.
Gopher Athletics says Steveson can return by using NCAA waivers due to an Olympic redshirt and an extra year of eligibility because of Covid-19.
Steveson is set to start his season November 24th at home against Campbell.
