TORONTO, On. – Electricity exports from Ontario, Canada to the U.S. are being hit with a surcharge.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced a 25 percent increase Monday. This comes as President Donald Trump has placed tariffs on exports of American-made items to Canada not involved in the USMCA agreement.
“Believe me when I say I do not want to do this. I feel terrible for the American people because it’s not the American people who started this trade war. It’s one person who’s responsible. That’s President Trump,” Ford said.
One-point-five-million Americans in Michigan, Minnesota and New York get electricity from Ontario according to Ford. Ford said if the U.S. escalates then he will not hesitate to shut the electricity off completely. Flag Family News reached out to the Minnesota Department of Commerce to see if any homes in Northwest Minnesota receive electricity from Ontario, but we haven’t heard back.
