Diplomat with strong Minnesota ties to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Haiti

(Washington, DC)  —  A man with deep ties to Minnesota is now the next U.S. ambassador to Haiti.

Dennis Haskins was confirmed by the Senate in an 89-to-1 vote last Thursday.

Haskins graduated from Bemidji High School in 1977 and went on to join the U.S. Foreign Service in 1984.

He was appointed U.S. ambassador to Guinea in 2015, and U.S. ambassador to Mali in 2018.

The nearly 65-year-old diplomat says he plans to retire after this assignment, which he expects to last around three years.
