Black Minneapolis pastors call for support for police after officer gunned down

(Minneapolis, MN) — There’s a new call for the city of Minneapolis to support its police officers.

Black pastors in the city yesterday called on city council president Elliot Payne to lead the full council to openly support the Minneapolis Police Department after officer Jamal Mitchell was gunned down in the line of duty last week.

Reverend Runney Patterson Sr. said when an officer shoots a civilian there are rallies and protests.

He said he wants to see the same kind of rally for Officer Mitchell and other police officers in the city now.

Patterson said the community needs to support the city’s police officers with more than just words.
