ST. PAUL, MN — The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says zebra mussels have been found in three more Minnesota lakes.
The agency announced Monday that the invasive species has been discovered at Union Lake in Polk County and First Silver and Heilberger lakes in Otter Tail County. The mussels are known for displacing native species and clogging water intakes on submerged equipment.
The DNR is asking Minnesotans to watch for the mussels, especially since they can cling to boats and other hard surfaces. That allows them to spread to other lakes and take over new habitats.
