(PIERRE, SD) – The 2026 Fourth of July celebration in South Dakota could potentially feature a prominent figure.
South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden, on X, confirmed that he has invited President Donald J. Trump to take part in the Independence Day festivities at Mount Rushmore.
“We are ready to throw the biggest birthday party ever for America’s 250th birthday,” Rhoden wrote on X. “And there is no better place to do it than Mount Rushmore.”
In a letter to Trump, Rhoden pointed to Trump’s recent announcement of a White House Task Force on Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday and the confirmation of Doug Burgum as Secretary of the Interior.
“Please consider this a formal invitation to come to Mount Rushmore for Independence Day in 2026 to celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday with fireworks,” he wrote in the letter to Trump.
