Richland County Sheriff’s Deputy heading to training hurt in rollover

RICHLAND COUNTY, ND – An Abercrombie, North Dakota man was hurt in a rollover in Richland County Monday night. It happened on County Road 81, 5 miles north of Dwight just after 6 p.m. The State Patrol says 30-year old Steven Nelk was reaching down to pick up his phone when he lost control of his pickup and hit the ditch. The pickup vaulted over a driveway and rolled twice. Nelk was not wearing a seatbelt. He was taken to Sanford Medical Center for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Nelk is a Richland County Sheriff’s Deputy and was traveling to law enforcement training in his personal vehicle. He faces charges of Failure to maintain control-distracted driving.
