(Fargo, ND) – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is celebrating a significant gift during this holiday season.
The Scheels corporation presented, at a ceremony this morning in Fargo, a gift of 55 body armor chest plates. The plates fit into the vests worn on patrol. They are made by Angel Armor, and are custom made to protect a variety of body sizes. The plates are rifle resistant and can stop multiple rounds. They are not sold to the public. A review, on the website TheFireArmBlog.com, says that the plates cost approximately 500-dollars apiece. Scheels Marketing Leader Caryn Olson says Scheels has done similar gifts in 34 of their original stores and the company will do a similar donation in its newest stores by the end of 2025. The Colorado-Based nonprofit group “Shield six-one-six” facilitated the handoff between the manufacturer and Scheels, and conducted today’s ceremony.
Sheriff Jesse Jahner says his team has had chest plates in the past but they’ve been much heavier which can lead to fatigue and limited mobility.
Olson says it means a great deal to the company to stand behind law enforcement and support them with high-tech equipment.
She says a similar law enforcement ceremony will be done as part of the grand opening process in any new Scheels stores that open in the future. Each member of the sheriff’s office also received a Bible from Shield 6-1-6.
