(FARGO, ND) – North Dakota’s top federal prosecutor is stepping down from his role.
U.S. Attorney Mac Schneider made the announcement on social media. He was sworn in as United States Attorney for the District of North Dakota on December 12, 2022, after being nominated by then-President Joe Biden.
“I submitted my resignation as U.S. Attorney this morning. Grateful to the point of near disbelief to do such meaningful work with such incredible people,” Schneider posted on X, formerly Twitter. “I’ll be cheering on my successors and former colleagues in the months and years to come.”
Prior to being named the U.S. Attorney, Schneider worked in private practice. He also served on the North Dakota State Senate from 2009 until 2016 and served as the Minority Leader from 2013 until 2016. He ran for Congress in 2018, finishing second behind former Congressman, and current Governor, Kelly Armstrong.
Schneider’s resignation is effective immediately. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Puhl is acting U.S. Attorney, according to spokesperson Terry Van Horn.
