South Dakota fiscal year finishes with near $80M surplus

(Sioux Falls, SD) — Governor Kristi Noem is announcing an 80-million-dollar surplus at the end of the 2024 fiscal year.

The Governor’s Office made the announcement Monday after the budget year closed on June 30th. State government spent about 56-million dollars less than what lawmakers appropriated for the 2024 fiscal year.

Governor Noem says the surplus is thanks to “small government, low taxes, and spending within our means.”
