WDAY RADIO — A woman who sent a Facebook post that allegedly helped start a rumor about Haitian immigrants eating pets says she’s filled with regret.
Springfield, Ohio resident Erika Lee recently made a Facebook post about a neighbor’s cat that went missing, and said the neighbor told her they believed it was the fault of their Haitian neighbors. Lee’s post was one of the first that implied Haitian residents were attacking pets. The rumor was later repeated by Donald Trump.
“It just exploded into something I didn’t mean to happen,” said Lee while speaking to NBC News Friday.
Lee told reporters she had no idea the post would become part of the rumor mill, and said she feels terrible for the Haitian community.
