Study: 41% of U.S. Adults with Hypertension don’t know they have it

WDAY RADIO — A new report shows a lot of people are unaware they have high blood pressure.

The National Center For Health Statistics shows about 41% of U.S. Adults who have hypertension don’t realize they have it. This comes from a survey and blood pressure readings taken in homes between August 2021 and August 2023. The study shows men were less likely than women to know they have high blood pressure.

“Hypertension is a treatable chronic condition. Men were more likely than women to have hypertension, but among those with hypertension, a higher percentage of women were aware of their hypertension, reported treatment for hypertension, and had controlled hypertension. The reason for this sex difference may be multifaceted, and research shows that women generally seek health care more than men.” – Expert from the CDC Study.
