OTTAWA, Canada – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says President Donald Trump has agreed to pause proposed tariffs on Canada for 30 days.
Trudeau announced the news in a post on X, hours after Trump paused planned tariffs on Mexico for one month. Trump announced Saturday he would impose 25 percent tariffs on goods from Mexico and Canada — and 10 percent tariffs on goods imported from China.
Trudeau and Trump spoke by phone Monday, and afterward, the prime minister said Canada will implement a $1.3 billion plan to reinforce the border aimed at stopping the flow of fentanyl.
