WASHINGTON – Former Democratic Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard is confirmed as the next Director of National Intelligence.
The Senate voted in favor of her confirmation in a 52-48 vote. Former Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was the only Republican to vote against Gabbard. He also voted against Defense Secretary and Minnesotan Pete Hegseth’s nomination.
Some senators were concerned Gabbard wouldn’t call Edward Snowden a traitor for releasing classified documents and for meeting with then Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in 2017 when she was in Congress. Gabbard ran for president as a Democrat in 2020.
