Two arrested after traffic stop led to one fleeing in West Fargo

(WEST FARGO, ND) — Two people have been arrested following a traffic stop Thursday night in West Fargo.

Police attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 2600 block of Sheyenne Street. The driver of the vehicle was brought to the back of a squad car for further investigation. While the driver was in the squad car, the female passenger got into the driver’s seat and attempted to flee from law enforcement. Officers pinned the vehicle against a nearby snowbank so the vehicle could not flee. The female driver remained uncooperative, attempted to flee on foot and was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

The driver, Michael Shea Carpenter, a 47-year-old male from Fargo, was arrested for felony possession of drug paraphernalia. The passenger, Sophia Rose Skoog, a 20-year-old female from Graceville, Minnesota, was arrested for fleeing in a motor vehicle, preventing arrest and an outstanding warrant.

There were no injuries to emergency personnel, suspects or bystanders.
