Unattended cooking causes smoke damage to Grand Forks home

(GRAND FORKS) – Unattended cooking led to smoke damage at a Grand Forks home late Friday night.

According to Grand Forks Fire Battalion Chief Brandon LaRoque, Grand Forks firefighters were dispatched to a home in the 3500 block of Ruemmele Road Frtiday at 11:25 p.m. for a report of a smoke detector activation.

Crews arrived on scene to find heavy smoke on the home’s third floor. The fire was quickly extinguished, with no damage to the structure. Crews ventilated smoke from the building, and all residents were allowed to return to the home.

Crews determined the fire to have been accidentally set, due to unattended cooking.

No injuries were reported.
