NEW YORK CITY (27/7 News Source) – An investigation is underway after UnitedHealthcare’s CEO was fatally shot outside a midtown Manhattan hotel Wednesday morning.
Reports say 50-year-old Brian Thompson, who heads UnitedHealthcare’s insurance division, was in the city for a conference at the Hilton Midtown, when he was shot in the chest in front of the hotel on Sixth Avenue just before 7:00 local time. Thompson was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but later died.
The NYPD is investigating whether it was a targeted shooting. Witnesses describe the suspect who fled the scene, as a white man wearing a cream colored jacket, black face mask, carrying a dark backpack.
UnitedHealthcare is headquartered in Minnetonka, Minnesota.
