4:45 p.m. 12/4/24 Update: Police identify the gunman involved in an officer-involved shooting has been identified.
The man has been identified as Devin Quinn Fontenot, a 27-year-old man from Jamestown.
Original story: JAMESTOWN, N.D. – A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Jamestown after police say the suspect fired gunshots.
Officers responded to the parking lot behind Fred’s Den Bar around 1:15 Tuesday morning because of a man armed with a gun and a knife. A 911 caller said the man was involved in a fight, was removed from the bar and later shot at the building.
Authorities say when an officer found the man, he was still shooting a rifle in the parking lot. The officer ordered the man to put his gun down, but he refused. The officer shot the man, gave him first aid and he was taken to Jamestown Regional Medical Center where he died.
Jamestown Police say the man’s name will not be released until family can be notified and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation has taken over the investigation.
