(FARGO, ND) – The City of Fargo says its winter warming plan was successful in the 2023-24 winter season.
Fargo Cass Public Health Director Jen Faul says the winter season last year saw more than 8,000 encounters with the plan, with nearly 700 individuals taking part in the winter warming program at the city’s engagement center, with more than 200 participating for the first time.
The average length of stay was eight nights, Faul said, with 47 percent of those taking part in the program only staying one single night with some staying upwards of 80 nights.
Last weekend was the first weekend winter warming was offered in the City of Fargo, with 62 individuals seeking shelter.
Faul says the city will work to divert individuals to other facilities again this year, with the program set to close on April 30, 2025.
Those looking for shelter are asked to go to the Downtown Engagement Center for triaging and coordinating ‘for the most appropriate shelter assistance available.’
Winter warming will move locations beginning Tuesday. The location will be at 1230 25th Street South, the site of the former Fargo Police Department’s substation.
