Wrong way driver arrested for DWI near Alexandria

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Minn. – A 26-year-old Osakis man is arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and had a blood alcohol content three-and-a-half-times the legal limit, authorities say.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says they received multiple 911 calls around 3:30 AM on Thanksgiving of a driver on Interstate 94 going the wrong way. The pickup was found a few miles east of Alexandria going west in the eastbound lanes. Deputies pinned and blocked the vehicle with their patrol vehicles.

Authorities say the driver was given a breathalyzer and was arrested.

“It is extremely fortunate nobody was seriously injured or killed during this incident,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
The sheriff’s office has not named the driver.
