Twins salvage series finale against Giants

On Wednesday afternoon the Minnesota Twins were looking to avoid being swept by the San Francisco Giants.

The Twins began the scoring early as Eduard Julien hit a 407 foot leadoff home run, giving Minnesota a 1-0 lead.

In the second Casey Schmitt hit an RBI single for the Giants, tying the game at 1-1. In the bottom half of the inning, Matt Wallner hit an RBI double, followed by a Julien RBI sacrifice fly, regaining Minnesota’s lead, this time at 3-1.

The Twins continued their offensive dominance in the third inning scoring on an error, then Willi Castro stole home plate, 5-1 Minnesota. Julien scored again on a wild pitch in the fourth inning, extending the lead to 6-1. The final run of the game came in the sixth inning on a 433 foot Ryan Jeffers home run, Twins lead 7-1.

Joe Ryan earned his seventh win of the season after tossing five innings with four strikeouts while only giving up one run.

The Twins have an off day on Thursday and will welcome the Toronto Blue Jays to Target Field for a weekend series beginning on Friday night. First pitch will be set for 7:10 p.m. with Louie Varland set to be on the mound for Minnesota.
