(Daytona Beach, FL) — William Byron took home the checkered flag in a wet and sloppy Daytona 500. The driver of the No. 24 car surged from the ninth spot and held off Tyler Reddick on the final lap of overtime following a multi-car wreck. He became the first driver to win back-to-back Daytona 500’s since Denny Hamlin in 2019.
Jimmie Johnson, Chase Briscoe and John Hunter Nemechek rounded out the top-five finishers. The race was held under the lights after it was delayed for more than three-and-a-half hours for two separate rain stoppages.
The NASCAR Cup Series continues when the field rolls into Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Ambetter Health 400 next Sunday.
