On Wednesday, January 29, North Dakota State associate head coach, Randy Hedberg, announced his retirement.
Hedberg’s coaching career began in 1980 at Minot State as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach and ending with his 11-year stint at NDSU, primarily as the quarterbacks coach.
Coaching career:
1980-81 Minot State (Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach)
1982-89 Minot State (Head coach)
1990-95 Central Missouri (Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks and receivers coach)
1996-98 North Dakota (Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks and receivers coach)
1999-2007 St. Cloud State (Head coach)
2008-13 (Co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach)
2014-18 North Dakota State (Quarterbacks coach)
2019-24 North Dakota State (Associate head coach/passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach)
During his time at NDSU, Hedberg coached NFL draft pick QB’s Carson Wentz, Easton Stick, and Trey Lance. In April he could end up coaching a fourth NFL QB as Cam Miller prepares for the possibility of being drafted.
“I have been fortunate to have coached for the last 11 seasons at NDSU with three different head coaches in Chris Klieman, Matt Entz and Tim Polasek,” said Hedberg. “Being a North Dakota native, it is extremely gratifying to be ending my college coaching career at NDSU. He continued, “thank you to the NDSU administration, fellow coaches, Bison Nation, and especially the players for this tremendous time of my coaching life. I would also like to thank my family, and especially my wife, Dr. Chery Hysjulien.”
Additionally, Hedberg was the 2020-21 FCS Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association.
