Twins drop series opener to Mets

The Minnesota Twins fell to the New York Mets 5-1 on Monday night. Christian Vazquez drove in Minnesota’s only run in the game.

Joe Ryan gave up one run over five innings of work with eight strikeouts in a no-decision. Justin Topa gave up two runs (one earned) in an inning of relief and was tagged with the loss. Jorge Alcala also gave up two runs in a single inning of relief. Kody Funderburk tossed two shutout innings over the final pair of innings.

The Twins and Mets will continue their series this evening with first pitch scheduled for 6:40 p.m. Bailey Ober will get the nod for Minnesota while Trevor Megill is set to be on the bump for New York.

In other team news first baseman Ty France was named the American League’s Player of the Week on Monday after racking up 11 hits this past week.
