Twins release pitch-tipping prospect

(Minneapolis, MN) — A recent Twins draft pick is throwing away his shot at the MLB.

The organization released minor league catcher Derek Bender yesterday because he let opposing hitters know what pitches were coming during a game with playoff implications last week. Bender reportedly told his Fort Myers teammates that he wanted the season to be over.

Bender was selected in the sixth round of the MLB Draft two months ago, and he played in just 19 minor league games.
