Twins swept by Royals; dropped five of last six games in heated wild card race

The Minnesota Twins were swept by the Kansas City Royals after falling 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Simeon Woods-Richardson gave up two runs over 4 ⅓ innings of work and was tagged with the loss. Minnesota’s bullpen tossed 3 ⅔ shutout innings in the game.

The Twins are now returning home to Target Field tonight to begin a three game series with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. with David Festa on the mound for Minnesota.

The Twins are in third place in the AL Central, five games behind division leading Cleveland and 2 ½ games behind second place Kansas City. Minnesota currently leads Detroit and Seattle by 3 1/2 games for the final wild card spot.
