Twins swept in doubleheader with Red Sox

The Minnesota Twins were swept in a doubleheader by the Boston Red Sox on Sunday.

 

Game One

The Red Sox rolled the Twins 8-1.

Pablo Lopez gave up seven runs over four innings and ended up being tagged with the loss. Brent Headrick gave up one run while striking out five batters over three innings in relief. Scott Blewett tossed one shutout inning.

Willi Castro scored Minnesota’s only run on an error in the fourth inning.

 

Game Two

The Twins lost the series finale 9-3.

Zebby Matthews struck out six batters while giving up one run over 4 ⅓ innings in a no decision. Cole Irvin gave up four runs over ⅔ of an inning in relief and took the loss. Cole Sands gave up three runs while only throwing ⅓ of an inning. Michael Tonkin gave up one run in 1 ⅓ innings out of the bullpen and Caleb Thielbar threw one a scoreless inning.

Byron Buxton, Trevor Larnach, and Willi Castro each drove in a run.

 

The Twins are now off on Monday before welcoming the Miami Marlins to Target Field for a midweek series beginning on Tuesday night. Minnesota is now one game back of both Detroit and Kansas City for the third and final American League Wild Card spot.
