I hate using the “B” word unless conditions warrant….now the BIG question is will we SEE Blizzard conditions develop on Friday due to Blowing Snow??? There are a couple of “wild cards” that have to happen and let’s hope they don’t. There will be a little “crust” on top of our current snowpack and depending on the thickness of the crust and how strong the winds get will make a HUGE impact. IF we can get winds gusting to 45mph, typically this is strong enough to break off the crust on top of our current snowpack. That would lead to near blizzard conditions in open areas. If the “crust” holds on the current snowpack, then impacts from the wind would be minimal. So, prepare for the worst conditions and hope for the best.
Regardless, we WILL see dangerously cold wind chills over the weekend and into Monday with wind chills around 30 to 40 below. I’m confident advisories and warnings will be issued for the cold weather over the weekend. Here’s a look at wind chill forecasts for Sunday/Monday:
