Quiet end to January….LRC shows possible early Feb. storm

We haven’t had much snow this month….only around 2-5″ across the F/M area with slightly higher amounts this month into Lakes country.  Very disappointing for snow lovers.   Here’s an interesting stat, with the latest storm that hit Louisiana with 7-10″ of snow, that’s more snow in ONE storm than some of us in the N. Plains have seen all winter.

Now we have seen our share of COLD weather this month as the AO (Arctic Oscillation) has dipped into the negative range.  Anytime the AO dips negative, Arctic air pours into the area.  However, look at the prediction of early Feb.    The AO is forecast to turn positive:

As the AO turns positive next week, the Arctic air moves north:

With the AO remaining positive for the start of February, look for above normal temps to continue with a better chance for some “stormy” weather, especially the first week in February.
