SSW and a polar vortex split???

We saw a disruption of the polar vortex in February and now we may have another round mid March into April.   There are strong signs of another Polar Vortex “split”

When the vortex is stable, cold air is locked up by the N. Pole.  But a recent SSW (Sudden Stratospheric Warming) is expected to cause the Polar Vortex to split  toward mid March which means stormy conditions are possible across much of the U.S.   Typically this pattern lasts 2-3 weeks but sometimes up to a month.    This coincides with the LRC “stormy” cycle mid March through Mid April…..stay tuned as winter is not quite done with us yet!!!
